Let's Get Acquainted: Advice for New Teachers

What's up Y'all!! I'm back!! I had an absolutely F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S time visiting family and friends in Virginia.  I am relaxed and well rested. It is almost time to get back into the grind of work.  I will start going into my classroom to begin to get ready for back to school.  Where oh where has my summer gone???

Topic:  Advice for New Teachers

Here is My Advice

Buy

Don't get into the habit of always buying unnecessary things.  Limit your purchases to items that you will use on a consistent basis and serves a beneficial purpose.

Always

Never go into a new school thinking that you are a know-it-all.  Always be open to suggestions!! Listen when someone recommends that you try something a different way especially if they way you tried did not work.  Don't take it personally and think that people are criticizing you.

Never

No matter what you do or what happens...never, ever, ever...let them see you sweat.  Mistakes will be made, but just pick yourself up and keep it movin!!

Find

Find yourself some comfortable shoes...you will need them.  Very rarely will you have time to sit down.  You will be on your feet all day.  But if you must where heels like I do sometimes keep a pair of flats under your desk.  They will come in handy!!

Make 

Make the most of your time.  It is going to be very important to use your time wisely.  You must be organized and prepared at all times.  Don't socialize in the teacher's lounge during your planning or after school...use that time to prepare for the next day, do your lesson plans, or analyze your data to drive your instruction.

Be

The last piece of advice that I can give to all new teachers is to be YOURSELF.  Never pretend to be someone that your are not.  People will see right through that!!  Be genuine and sincere in your actions and deeds and you won't go wrong.

My Favorite Teacher

I went to catholic school from third grade to six grade when I grew up in Bronx, NY.  I remember going to St. Pius V.   Most of the nuns believe or not were so very mean.  But there were several teachers who were not nuns.  My favorite teacher was my third grade teacher... Now keep in mind this is 1973...I am nine years old...OMG...that was so long ago...I am dating myself...Her name was Mrs. Cleary and she was not a nun...thank goodness.  I remember it always being so calm and peaceful in the classroom.   She was a very sweet and caring teacher.  She was also very patient and kind.  She never raised her voice or made you feel bad for not knowing the answer or understanding the material.  One thing I remember always being the tallest girl in the classroom.  So that should help you find my picture...That is my best friend standing next to me with the glasses on who I will finally see this Friday!!

Topic: Meet 2 of my Bloggy Friends

Such a great idea!  Well this was sort of hard because I have met and become friends with so many sweet bloggers and didn't want to leave any one out...

1.   Corinna  from Teaching Fabulous Firsties

Corinna and I started on this blogging journey at about the same time.  She has been such a sweet bloggy friend. She left a sweet "just because" email and attached one of her great units...that made my day. I am so glad that I can call her a friend!!

2. Cindy from Granny Goes to School

Cindy started blogging a little after me but has taken the blog world by storm. She is so awesome and generous!  She started visiting my blog and leaving such wonderful comments.  I am so in awe of her talents and just love her craftivities.  I am thrilled that we have become blogging buddies!

I want to send a special shout out to a new blogging friend.

We became buddies through the Blogs by State Linky.  Karen always makes it her business to leave a comment on my blog.  We have some things in common: we both teach in the wonderful state of South Carolina, we are both working on our masters, and we both started blogging in July 2012.  She also shares such wonderful ideas on her blog.

It's Spring Cleaning Time...&...Let's Get Acquainted Linky

Hello Friends! I have created a new center activity on telling time to the hour and half hour that is aligned to the common core.  My kiddos are really good at telling time so I didn't have to spend a lot of time on this skill.  I created a center activity for them to practice during math work stations. It has been uploaded to my TN store.

My Favorite Ice Cream Flavor is Breyer's Snickers Blast-Yummy!

My favorite memory from college is when we all crammed into one of our friends' Impala and went to see Scarface.  We were about 8 deep...packed like sardines in that car but we had a blast!!

My favorite sports team is by default...I am not really a sports fan...but since I grew up in Bronx, NY it is going to be the NY Yankees and NY Knicks.

My favorite fast food restaurant is...

I try not to eat fast food, but if I am in the mood for something I would go to Sonic...their burgers are the best...not to mention the fact that they have Happy Hour from 2-4 for half off drinks...since it is tax day it is happy hour all day today...go get your slush on!

Wild Card...One of my hobbies is sewing. I used to love to sew.  Although I don't do it as much as I used to...I plan on getting back into it this summer.

1.  The first thing that I would have to have with me would be my children.  They are not babies anymore and the time that we spend together is so precious.

The NOUN Game.

To play the noun game, you name your favorite person, place, thing, and animal. 

Person

My favorite person is my ex-husband...We have finally got to a place where we are now best friends...WOW!! I never thought I would be able to say that...Growth is good!

Place

My all time favorite place is Germany.  It is such a beautiful country and they have the most beautiful castles.  I spent three years there during my Army days. I want to go back one day or maybe go over there and teach for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS).

Thing

My favorite thing is my new iPad.  It think it was a great investment.  I have already created a few fonts and have started two more...I'm glad I purchased it!

Animal

I really don't have a favorite.  But if I did it would be this little guy...Isn't he the cutest? 

I want oneeeeeeeee!! 

This precious thing is called a Bichon Frise
